  The 24th edition of one of Normandy's largest medieval festivals, at the foot of William the Conqueror's castle: a grand parade on Saturday evening, a medieval market, encampments, period crafts, archery and activities for the whole family. A lovely day out.

  The 32nd edition of this festival of "music from the open sea": concerts and gatherings on Tatihou island and on the mainland, to the rhythm of August's great tides (walk across at low tide). Further afield, but memorable if you're planning a day in the Cotentin.
